Vampires: A guide.

Coco's theory and guide to the habits, culture, anatomy, and types of vampires. (Twilight vampires not included)

again, it's just my theory as of right now~ but I want to add lots of other things to it. =u=

More to be added soon.

Creation:  Vampires are, in all truth, assassins. Vampires were originally created by the Devil himself to kill off the angels, both on Earth and in other realms (They have since adapted.) . He used Hellfire and the blood of one or more of the sacred Archangels to create them. Originally, all vampires were pureblood, and twelve of them were created, six male and six female, for the sake of procreation. From then on, numbers of pureblood multiplied, soon followed by bitten and “normal” vampires.

Vampire Types:

Pureblood:  The highest class of Vampire in existence. “Pureblood” means that the vampire’s blood is pure and untainted by blood of other species. Pureblood vampires are known to be direct descendants of the first six families, and from there branch out to different “clans” or purebloods. Purebloods are the most respected vampires of all, and for good reason. Because their blood is not tainted, they have superior speed, agility, lifespan, and resistance. They are also much better at keeping emotions in check, and do not fall weakness to human emotions. Unlike bitten, normals, or half-breeds, they will not die when stabbed with a stake or blessed item. They will die, however, as with all other vampires, if they are stabbed with something akin to ice, because they are made partially of hellfire. Purebloods also are more capable of transformation and magic use. To date, there are only around three known living vampires who are pureblooded. This is because, vying for power, they killed each other off in a sort of ‘Civil War’.

Bitten: As the name suggests, vampires that are “bitten” were all once human who were converted into vampires. They still have traces of human blood in them, and are imperfect, unlike pure-blooded vampires. Therefore, they are not as strong or quick as purebloods, and are more susceptible to human emotion. They do not have, or have less of, the power to transform and use magic. Bitten vampires do have venom, and it is rare for a vampire to be “born” or “awakened” without venom in the venom sacs of their fangs. Vampires such as these are susceptible to dying by means of stake or blessed item.

“Normal”: Normal vampires are less common than bitten, but more common than Purebloods. They are the children of “bitten” and “pureblood” vampires, or just bitten vampires. Much like bitten, they do not have the same capabilities or stamina as purebloods, but are less susceptible to human emotion. The methods of killing them are the same as with bitten.

Half-breed: Considered by all other classifications of vampire as abominations, half-breeds are the children of a vampire and a human, demon, or other species. The most common of half-breeds is the child of a human and a vampire, and the most loathed of the half-breeds is the demon-vampire child. Most vampires are advised to kill half-breeds on the spot, and they are shunned from vampire society. The parents of a half-breed are usually either killed or shunned as well. And half-breeds are weak, often useless. Especially in human-vampire types, there is very little vampire ability, because a half-breed will carry the traits of both parents. In the children of demons and vampires it is often the opposite, the half-child gaining the demon parent’s abilities. This is why vampires kill most half-breeds at a young age. The half-breed of an angel and vampire often are sickly.

On “Other-Worldly” Vampires: Although not another species, the culture of the vampires of other worlds are extremely (for the most part) different than the culture of the vampires of Earth. This was not always the case. Originally, all Vampires lived on Earth. But as wars began, Vampires who wanted to escape went off to other worlds with the help of their magic. Although the vampires in another world may be stronger, they will always be referred to as “cowardly” by the vampires of Earth, because they “ran away”. The vampires of other worlds treat each other with disdain when they meet more often than not. The Earth is the main meeting-place of vampires, because of the simple fact it was their original home.

Anatomy:

Fangs: The fangs of a vampire are built like that of a snake. They are not completely solid: vampire fangs are hollow in the middle so that venom (stored in “venom sacs” above the fangs) can make it through them and into the victim. As well as not being solid, they retract and can be hidden so that vampires can be disguised in a largely human world.

Eyes: Vampires have superior eyesight to humans. They can see in great detain, and, much like a snake or cat, their eyes are slitted to control the light admitted in. This allows them to see extremely well at night, which is when a majority of their hunting is done.

Wings: Not all vampires have wings. It is something that is caused by a mutant gene that stops vampires from transforming. So, although a vampire has wings, that usually means they are unable to transform into their choice transformation all the way, or at all, even if they may be able to hide the wings. There are extremely rare cases where the vampire, born with wings, can also transform.

Ears:  Vampires, have great hearing, much like bats. Their range of hearing varies, but it is far great than that of any human and is even better than that of a cat or bloodhound. Vampire ears end in a point, something they cannot take away to hide from humans. To solve this, most vampires hide their ears with their hair or a hat, some even cutting the tips off. It seems that humans have become more accepting of pointed ears as of recent though (a trend, perhaps?), and some female vampires (or males) have been daring enough to get their ears pierced.

Torso/Arms/Legs: The vampire anatomy, for the most part, is a lot like a human’s anatomy, more so if the vampire is of a “bitten” variety. Otherwise, vampires are more slender and usually have longs arms and legs.

Nose: Vampires have a very strong sense of smell, like that of a dog. Smell is very important to them. By smelling the air around them, they can detect prey as well as other vampires and species in the area. Some vampires have less of a scent than others, and some vampires smell horrible to others. Although it is not something that happens in modern times as much, scent was often a way for a vampire to fin his/her mate, as their chosen mate would smell better than the other vampires. Most vampires find that humans have good scents as well, along with some demons and other species, because of their blood.  But as far as demons go, their sweet scent can either be overpowering or completely disgusting to vampires. Their strong sense of smell is also why they hate things such as garlic- the scent is so strong it hurts their noses.

Blood: Vampire blood is, for the most part, characteristically black or very, very dark red. Vampires are “cold-blooded” creatures, and so they live more in warmer places. It is, however, more of a hybrid between warm and cold-blooded, or is sometimes in its own category. There have been extremely rare cases where a vampire has blue blood.

Abilities:

Transformation: Vampires have the ability to transform. Although the most commonplace is the Vampire Bat, that is not the only thing that is in their power. In fact, vampires can turn into many living creatures. But there are issues with transforming, for only their appearance changes. If they are an animal that cannot “drink” blood, then they will starve. So the main choice ultimately is a vampire bat. Also, not every vampire is born with the ability to transform. So may have to use spells to turn into a different form.

Magic: Most, if not all vampires have the ability to use magic. This is partially due to the fact they were created with angel’s blood. Their magic, however, unlike the pure kind that is of the angels, is what humans learned and adapted to what is called “black magic”. It is dangerous, even for the vampire itself, to use, and so vampires do not use it often. It also requires that spells be said, and so the less learned vampires tend to avoid using it.

Movement: To Vampires, movement is very important. Originally created as assassins for angels, they needed speed and agility to keep up with such otherworldly creatures. To the human eye, a vampire who is running is so fast they are nearly invisible, almost as if the creature dematerialized and rematerialized in a new spot. Non-pureblood vampires are slower than their pureblood counterparts, and therefore are easier prey to kill than pureblood when facing off with an angel. Vampires must have both cunning and agility to win against their prey. Other times, especially at night, vampires that can fly or transform will take the easy way out and attack unsuspecting prey from above. Much like how a fly is faster in sunny weather, a vampire is more powerful under the light of the moon.

Diet:

On Blood: Blood is the only food source that can keep a vampire alive. Although vampires often will eat human foods and drink, it will not quell their hunger, and gives very little nutrients to their bodies. Usually, a vampire’s favorite drink is wine. This is because to a vampire, wine tastes quite a lot like blood. To vampires, blood tastes much like wine, varying in flavor from species to species and person to person. Each vampire has their own favorite flavor in blood. Usually, is a vampire is born into a certain culture of human, they prefer that culture’s blood over that of another country. (Example: A vampire from England HATES French blood. A vampire in America, exposed to many cultures, does not have such a specific taste in blood.)

On Biting:  Vampires do not suck blood, contrary to popular belief. Rather, they work more like the aptly named Vampire Bat, who bites its prey and takes the blood from the puncture wounds by licking them.  This is not true for every vampire. Some, especially when very hungry, will “drink” the blood. When a vampire does this, however, it heightens the chance of the victim dying. It is not always that a vampire will kill its prey, in fact, it is often considered unwise. This is because the creatures vampires attack are usually part of a group or family: and so, when very hungry, a vampire must try to be more selective when picking out their prey. Another common misconception is that whenever a vampire bites a human, the human becomes a vampire. This is not true. A vampire, rather, can choose when to inject poison into their victim. Biting, in other cases, has different implications. When a vampire finds a mate, they bite them, leaving a mark. It is not as commonplace as it was thousands of years ago, but sometimes this still does occur.

Angels: Angels were the reason vampires were created. To a vampire, an angel is the most delicious “delicacy” they will ever taste. An angel’s scent is nearly enough to drive even the wisest vampires mad with hunger; even they have already had their fill of blood, because this is why vampires were created. Angel’s blood, after being drunk, also heightens a vampire’s stamina, even if for only a short time. But it is hard to find angels and even harder to capture and bite them.

Humans: Vampires adapted to biting humans for food, opposed to angels, because there were little amount of angels and millions upon millions of humans. Human blood is not nearly as good as angel blood, but to a vampire it is like an extremely good brand of wine, and it keeps them alive. When biting humans, vampires must be careful not to arouse suspicion among others.

Demons: Vampires generally do not feed of demons, as most demons are dreadfully “sweet”, to the point that a vampire is disgusted. It also has a lot to do with the fact vampires dislike demons in general. There are times, however, when vampires will bite demons.

Animals: When a vampire absolutely must, they will bite  animals. It is not something that is usually done because vampires do not like the taste as much, but it does indeed happen. It is impossible to completely live off animals, as they do not provide enough nutrients for the vampire.

Life:

Span: A vampire’s life is usually hundreds of years longer than that of a human. Some vampires have even lived thousands of years, especially those that live in other worlds. Generally, pureblood vampires live the longest, normal and bitten vampires only living hundreds of years opposed to thousands. Half-breeds generally are killed before they can live to be very old.

Aging: Vampires, like humans, grow quickly in their early years. It is not until they are around teenage years when their aging process slows down. There is also another difference: vampires have more choice in what age they look after their teenage years. They may choose to grow slowly or quickly, but either way they are unable to reverse their ages.

Death: A vampire, unlike a human, is not susceptible to disease. They have a much superior immune system. But all vampires will eventually die. The most guaranteed way to kill a vampire is with ice. Vampires are made from the fires of hell and angel’s blood. Because ice is so cold, when stabbed in the heart with it, a vampire will die. For “normal” and “bitten” Vampires, they can also be killed with a stake or a blessed item. Although they are born with angel’s blood, a normal or bitten vampire is not immune to holy items. This is why such things will ward off vampires. Although blessed items cannot be used to kill purebloods, they still will ward them off or even paralyze them.

Location: Vampires, having weakness in the cold, are more often found in warmer countries with higher populations of people, particularly Europe. This is not always true, however, as some daring vampires venture to live in places such as Russia and Canada, even the Alps. A favorite dwelling of vampires is Egypt, for its climate and population. It is also where many of the first vampires resided. The city of Cairo, Egypt is where the Vampiric council is held.

Culture:

Vampires, particularly the ones on earth, have varying cultures depending upon the country they live in. Vampires follow human society, and will often pick up human customs. Humans also will pick up cultural traits from vampires, although this is done unknowingly. Examples of culture would be vampires like the ones living in Russia. Russian vampires are generally more hardy individuals, vampires that have learned to withstand the cold and harsh climate there. Vampires in China and Japan are known for their tight grasp on tradition, as well as their ruthlessness in playing the part of predator. Vampires hold chivalry, knowledge, manners, and honor as things of utmost importance. Generally it is proper manner to show little emotion when around other vampires. A vampire without manners is more often than not looked down upon.

Vampiric Council: A yearly meeting held in Cairo, Egypt, the Vampiric Council is a gathering of almost all the vampires on earth (and other worlds). Run by pureblood council leaders, it is a time when everything from news to death tolls are shared among the vampires. It is held underneath the rubble of a long-forgotten pyramid, and is a very formal meeting. The Council is heavily guarded, and it a human or another species (more often than not, a demon) is found prowling around, they are immediately killed. Half-breed vampires are not allowed into the council.

Coming soon: Historical events in the time Vampires have been on earth.

Hey, hey! I'm definitely going to edit this some time and add new things, so why not tell me some things you think I should add to this?
This is something I've thought over for a long time, if you couldn't tell. I've had ideas about vampires in my head for quite a while now, and just now I've decided to write them down. I'm very happy with this so far and will definitely add to it.

And that's where I would like some help. I'm sure there's at least a few of you who have their own ideas about the life and times of vampires, so it'd be really nice if I had a little input for this. (I'm in the process of reading Dracula, as well. )

Soon enough I hope I'll be able to add some Vampire History..... >3>

So, whaddaya think? ;3
